Published: 12/06/2019Robust succession planning from Strettons sees Simon Tilsiter promoted to take the helm at one of London’s oldest independent property advisers and auction houses.
We are pleased to finally announce that Simon Tilsiter has been promoted to the position of Managing Director, forging ahead with the firm’s ambitious plans for growth as Ben Tobin plans for retirement later in the year.
Now with almost 30 years in the business, Simon Tilsiter joined Strettons back in 1990 as a graduate trainee and has risen through the ranks, serving time in almost all of the firm’s departments. Appointed to the Board as a Director in 1998, Simon has been leading the Management Department in property portfolio and asset management ever since. During this time, Strettons has built on its east London heritage and developed into a nationally reputed, trusted property advisory firm operating throughout the UK.
Commenting on the announcement, Ben Tobin said: “This is a significant milestone in Strettons’ journey. For the first time since 1931, there will be no Tobin family member on the Board, but I am extremely confident, as are the Board, that the timing is right to take Strettons onto the next stage of growth, following our rebrand in 2016.”
“Although it may come as a surprise to many externally, as a business we have been planning this succession for over five years, to ensure that there would be a long run-in period and we could prepare our committee for change. We have already unofficially operated for 12 months under the new structure and have been very successful.”
“Our aim has always been to ensure that we have a progression of leadership in the firm, the way to do this is to let all staff see that there is potential to progress. So, it is with great pleasure that I hand over the mantle to Simon Tilsiter to secure a solid future for our business and make plans for my retirement.”
Ben Tobin will continue in his position as a Director until November, and thereafter, will concentrate on his role as one of the UK’s longest experienced Property Receivers, and will still be visible on the rostrum at Strettons’ auctions. Hopefully, with more free time, Ben plans involvement with a newly established charity.
This transition is another milestone following several significant years for Strettons. It has seen expansions into new territories, a full rebrand and a raft of high-profile appointments. The acquisition of Frankis Porter in 2018 further boosted our thriving industrial department and ongoing investments in people, IT systems and offices show Strettons’ continued commitment to future growth.
On his new role, Simon Tilsiter said: “It is an honour to take over from Ben and be entrusted with the Tobin legacy. As Strettons continues to evolve, I, with the rest of the Board, will oversee our many complementary business divisions to further cement our reputation as leading advisors in the east and northeast London property market. It is important to invest and be dynamic in order to continue to make a positive impact and achieve our growth ambitions.”
